Guide to Artistic Residencies in Latin America

Silo’s artistic residency program is featured in the 2nd edition of the Guide to Residencies in South America, published this year by the Pro Helvetia Foundation.

The Pro Helvetia publication — a Swiss Foundation working to promote the cultural projects and contemporary artists around the world — presents an overview of the artistic residency ecosystem in Latin America. Published in three versions (English, Spanish, and Portuguese), the guide features a series of interviews with artists and residency managers, as well as a mapping of various projects established across Latin American territory, presenting their proposals, spaces, and selection processes for artists seeking plural experiences of exchange, connection, and learning.

Committed to cultural exchange and artistic collaboration, Pro Helvetia carries a series of projects and initiatives aimed at facilitating encounters among arts professionals working in Literature, Music, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts — creating connections and building partnerships in the cultural sector through residency projects, grants, and support for research trips, promoting exchanges between Switzerland and the world.

Philippe Bischof, director of Pro Helvetia, states his belief that “it is part of our responsibility as a foundation to encourage constructive dialogue about what cultural promotion can and should do, now and in the future. This includes accepting divergent opinions and attitudes, without which there can be no liberal, diverse, and open society.”

The guide seeks to contribute to the dissemination of South American artistic cooperation programs and to stimulate connections across the region.
